The Crawford County Sheriff's Office received a "COPS in Schools" grant for four years starting with the 2000 - 2001 school year. This grant allowed the placement of three officers within the Crawford Ausable School District. When this grant expired, the school district agreed to share costs with the county for one school resource officer. This officer act as a liaison within the community and school district. This officer performs prevention programs within the schools at all levels. D.A.R.E., Junior Deputy, Safety Patrol, Conflict Resolution, Drug and Alcohol prevention, and Safe Prom Week are just a few of the prevention programs that this officer performs. In addition to these programs, this officer handles all criminal and civil incidents that occur on school property.
