Crawford Co Sheriff's Office

D.A.R.E.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education

Sergeant Randy Herman has been a D.A.R.E. Instructor since the 1999-2000 school year. Currently Sergeant Herman instructs  D.A.R.E in the Grayling Middle School to seventh grade students. Deputy Shawn Schnoor has recently become a new addition to the D.A.R.E. Instruction staff. Deputy Schnoor will be instructing D.A.R.E to Fifth Grade students at the Grayling Elementary School in the 2007-2008 school year.

The partnership between the Crawford AuSable School District and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office with the D.A.R.E. program began in 1988. Over 3,500 students have taken part in the program since its introduction in 1988. The first students to graduate from D.A.R.E. in Crawford County will turn 30 years old this year. Some of the current students are the children of those first D.A.R.E. Graduates and are now attending D.A.R.E. classes.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. Program is funded solely by community donations. In June of each year the “D.A.R.E. Golf Outing” is held. Money from this event is the source of funding for D.A.R.E. as well as other youth oriented programs run through the Sheriff’s Office.
