Crawford County Sheriff, Kirk A. Wakefield states that his office is investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that was discovered on Sunday January 1, 2006 (New Years Day) at 10:00 am. The accident occurred in Grayling Township along North Down River Rd near Stephan Bridge Rd.
The accident occurred sometime during the early morning hours after the operator had left a friends home. Milton Arthur Peterson 41 y/o of Grayling was riding his 1995 Skidoo snowmobile alone when he attempted to climb a steep ditch onto the shoulder of North Down River Rd. The snowmobile rolled pinning him underneath the machine which was the position he was found in several hours later.
Peterson was wearing a helmet, however alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
Mr Peterson was pronounced at the scene by the Crawford County Medical Examiners Office. MMR EMS assisted at the scene of the accident.
