Friday January 13th, 2006

     Crawford County Sheriff, Kirk A. Wakefield states that at approximately 6:52pm on Friday January 13th, 2006, A Sterling Heights residence arrived at his weekend cabin on Godfroy Road in Beaver Creek Township, southern Crawford County, and found tire tracks in his driveway. He then saw a truck and person by the vehicle. The owner and his wife called 911 on their cell phone and Crawford County Deputies responded to the scene.

     Two subjects had run into the woods leaving their vehicle at the cabin. A MSP tracking dog along with other county and MSP units were dispatched to the scene to assist. Information given by another cabin owner to deputies led a Deputy and the K-9 unit to an area at the end of Godfroy Road. The first suspect was taken into custody. About an hour later the Sheriff noticed fresh foot prints crossing Seven Mile Rd. The second suspect was apprehended about a 1/4 mile from that location by a trooper from the MSP Houghton Lake Post. 

     Both suspects were from the St Louis, MI area. They were transported to the Crawford County Jail and lodged. The quick resolution of the incident was due to the cooperation of the Crawford County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police.
