Sheriff Kirk A. Wakefield states on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 12:25 a.m., Crawford County Central Dispatch received a call stating that the caller had just been robbed at gunpoint in his residence. The caller advised that the suspect had left the residence with the victim’s pet alligator, approximately two feet in length. The caller also advised central dispatch that they recognized the gunman as 29-year-old, Gary Lee Gugin Jr., of Frederic.

The weapons used in the robbery, as well as the stolen alligator, were recovered from the Gugin residence. Mr. Gugin is being held in the Crawford County Jail on several felony weapons charges and is currently awaiting arraignment.
This incident is believed to be drug related and stems from an earlier drug arrest and seizure that occurred at the victim’s residence in Frederic earlier this month.
