Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that at approximately 1:00 a.m. this morning, a 911 call was taken by Crawford County Central Dispatch reference a male subject located at the entrance of Weyerhaeuser Corporation on Four Mile Road, Beaver Creek Township, who had just been assaulted with a shotgun. Upon arrival of sheriff’s deputies and ambulance, the victim was questioned and information was learned that the male subject had been assaulted at 6208 Gaberdiel Road located off Four Mile Road just east of Weyerhaeuser Corporation Facility.

Deputies responded to that location and summonsed the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force SWAT Team. Unaware, that while they were obtaining information from the male victim, the suspect and another victim got in a vehicle and drove to Roscommon County where the suspect’s mother lived. While the tracking of information was taking place, the suspect released the female victim to go home and he stayed at his mother’s residence in Roscommon County.

Deputies from Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office were asked to secure the suspect until Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield and Patrol Sergeant Randal Herman could get there and take custody of the 38-year-old male subject who is now lodged in the Crawford County Jail. The male subject is being charged with multiple felony counts to include Attempted Murder with more charges pending as the investigation concludes.

The male suspect was identified as CECIL ALLEN GUGIN, 38 years of age. The Suspect was arraigned Friday afternoon.
