NEWS RELEASE

April 19, 2007

Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at approximately 7:51 a.m., Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a 3-car personal injury accident on Old US 27 near the Grayling High School.

The initial report to Central Dispatch stated three vehicles had been involved in the injury accident and people were trapped inside a vehicle. Upon arrival Deputies discovered a 16 year old male, from Grayling, trapped inside one of the vehicles. This individual was a son of one of the responding Deputies.

Frederic Fire Department, MMR, and Grayling Fire Department extricated the 16 year old from his vehicle. He was then airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City by North Flight EMS.

A Kalkaska female, also involved in the accident, was transported to Mercy Hospital by MMR for chest and lower back pains. The third individual, involved in the accident, refused any medical attention.

Assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was Frederic Fire and EMS, MMR, Grayling Fire Department and North Flight EMS.

The accident is still under investigation, seat belts were worn, and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
