Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that on Thursday, May 3rd, 2007 at approximately 12:16 p.m., an officer attempted to place into custody a 19 year old Grayling male in the lobby of the Crawford County Courthouse. When the subject was advised by the corrections officer that there was a bench warrant for his arrest, he fled on foot from the courthouse. The subject ran to a waiting vehicle driven by another subject and fled southbound from Grayling. Officers observed the suspect vehicle on Interstate 75 near Four Mile Rd in Grayling Township, when the subject observed the officers approaching, the vehicle pulled to the shoulder and the subject exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The subject was taken into custody after a foot pursuit.
During the foot pursuit / apprehension, two Crawford County Deputies were injured. The officers were treated and released from Grayling Mercy Hospital Emergency Room.
The subject was transported to the Crawford County Jail where he is currently lodged. Multiple charges are pending in addition to the bench warrant, the investigation will continue.
