Friday, February 1st, 2008

     Sheriff Kirk A. Wakefield states that on Friday February 1, 2008 at approximately 3:25 pm deputies were dispatched to a head-on traffic accident near Thendara Rd. on M-72 in Grayling Township. A white minivan that was west bound on M-72 when it skidded across the centerline and struck an east bound pick-up truck. Both drivers were the lone occupant in each vehicle. The jaws of life were used to extricate the driver from the minivan. M-72 was closed to through traffic for approximately one hour while crews worked at the scene. Both drivers were transported to Grayling Mercy Hospital.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident. Both seat belts and airbags are credited for reducing the severity of the injuries to the drivers. The accident remains under investigation.

Slippery roads are reported throughout the area and motorists are reminded to use extra caution when driving.

Agency’s Assisting:  Mobile Medical Response (MMR) EMS units,  a DNR Conservation Officer and the Grayling City & Township Fire  Department.
