NEWS RELEASE

Monday April 7th, 2008

Sheriff Kirk A. Wakefield reports that the fight against drugs in Crawford County continues.  As you may remember, in February, S.T.I.N.G. narcotics officers, along with Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested thirteen persons.  Now, again, on March 27th a search warrant was served on a suspect and residence in Frederic Township, which seized ¾ of a pound of marijuana, prescription drugs, cash and other drug evidence.  Several warrants are being sought on the subjects that were at that residence.

Another search warrant netted one and three-quarters pounds of marijuana from the suspect’s room located at 110 State Street in the City of Grayling.  Also seized were three vehicles, cash, electronic image storage devices and drug trafficking evidence.  The tip to S.T.I.N.G. officers and Deputies came from Grayling Police Officer Somero, who also assisted the S.T.I.N.G. officers and Sheriff’s Deputies in the arrest.  The suspect had moved here from Oscoda and failed to register as a sex offender.  He was released on parole in June 2007 after serving ten years in prison for criminal sexual conduct 1st degree.  Charges are, also, being sought for failing to register violations.
