Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that an investigation by his office into multiple breaking & entering, malicious destruction of property and larceny incidents. These incidents had been investigated for the past month and resulted in the arrest of three subjects from Grayling on Home Invasion charges with additional charges pending. Arrested Donald Ewald age 18, Ryan Hunter 21 and Christopher Lauterwasser 22.
The subjects broke into seven different homes and stole items from yards, sheds, garages, pole barn and campers, in eleven different locations East of Grayling. The subjects broke in, tearing out the copper lines, wiring, sinks, and shower stalls from houses. One incident involved the break in to a house, garage and sheds on Bell Road where the subjects also broke into the garage and stole a trailer which they loaded with bikes, lawn mower, snow blower, snowmobiles, motorcycles, pickup topper and other objects. The trailer containing all the stolen property along with property from all cases were all taken to SMR salvage scrap yard in Roscommon. During investigation officers learned one of employees at SMR salvage was a friend to the three subjects and had tipped them off on stolen property we were looking for. That property was later recovered along a trail road. SMR salvage has been cooperative in assisting in this investigation.
