NEWS BRIEF

Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a stolen check complaint at the Wood Land  Motel in Grayling Michigan.  While investigating the stolen check complaint, the subject returned to the hotel and fled on foot from officers.  Troopers from Michigan State Police caught up with the suspect where he was taken into custody and then returned to Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Schnoor.  Deputy Schnoor interviewed the suspect and obtained a confession on the stolen checks and uncovered the fact that there was a bomb in the suspect’s room.  The MSP Bomb Squad was called in to remove the item from the hotel room.  The suspected pipe bomb was secured and destroyed without incident.  The suspect is now in custody and awaits arraignment on check fraud and explosive charges.
