NEWS BRIEF

Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that at 7:06PM, on August 1^st, officers from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office and the Grayling Police Department were dispatched to a shooting complaint off McCredie Road in the South Branch Township of Crawford County.

The initial call indicated that there were two male subjects and a female in the woods shooting at each other. Crawford County Central Dispatch kept the caller on the phone and was able to provide responding officers with updated information that included a female shouting for a shooter to stop shooting at them.

When officers arrived on the scene two weapons, ‘1’ handgun and ‘1’ long gun, were found on the back porch of a residence with a large number of spent rounds about the ground and porch. Those weapons were safeguarded and two individuals, one male and one female, were removed from the dwelling.

Officers then proceeded into a wooded area and made contact with two other individuals, one male and one female, ordered them to drop the handgun they possessed.  That handgun was then secured, as were the two individuals.

A total of ‘8’ weapons (‘6’ handguns, ‘1’ shotgun, and ‘1’ rifle) were confiscated and one male was taken into custody.
