NEWS BRIEF

Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield  states that on October 11th, 2009,  Deputies handled two serious motor vehicle accidents that resulted in serious injuries. The first accident was dispatched at 9:10am on M-72 West by Manistee River Road. The accident occurred in Frederic Township, which also responded. The accident involved a single vehicle and single female occupant. The driver believed to have fallen asleep ran off the road and struck three trees. The driver was taken to Grayling Mercy Hospital and later airlifted to St Mary’s because of a broken back. Alcohol was not a factor in this accident.

     The second accident was dispatched at 2:06pm on North Higgins Lake Drive by the Evergreen Store. The accident was in Beaver Creek Township, which also responded. This accident involved a single vehicle and single male occupant and a pet. The driver ran off the road and struck a single tree then the vehicle caught on fire. The fire was put out by a witness that stop to give aid. The driver was airlifted to Munson in Traverse City. The pet was deceased. Alcohol is a factor in the accident.
