Sunday November 8th, 2009
Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield states that Crawford County Sheriff Deputies with the assistance of the Michigan State Police K-9 unit from the Houghton Lake Post arrested a 20 y/o Roscommon man for stealing a vehicle.
At approximately 0300 on 11-7-09 deputies were dispatched to the Indian Glens area of South Branch Township to meet with a resident who stated someone had stolen her vehicle from her driveway. The vehicle was found several hours later in a wooded area well off any roadway. The MSP K-9 was called to the scene and ran a successful track to a residence also in the Indian Glens area. Footwear impressions found at the original scene and along the route of the K-9 track matched the treads of the shoes worn by the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and admitted responsibility for the vehicle theft.
While concluding the vehicle theft investigation, it was discovered that the residence next door to the original victim’s residence had been broken into. Deputies went to that residence and discovered similar footwear impressions. During the investigation it was discovered that an adjacent garage had also been broken into.
Deputies interviewed the suspect again and he admitted responsibility to the break-ins also. The suspect is lodged at the Crawford County Jail pending arraignment.
