NEWS BRIEF

Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield  states that on March 23, 2010 the Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney issued a misdemeanor warrant for Grayling City Manager, David Thayer.  Currently, Thayer is on paid administrative leave after being charged with 24 counts of violating the Social Security Act by allegedly disseminating Social Security numbers of citizens that were delinquent in paying their city income taxes.  Acting City Manager and Chief of Police, Doug Baum, reported to county officers that Thayer was under reporting to the City Council on budgetary issues.  The charge indicates that it is illegal to provide false statements relating to finances by public officers.  The investigation alleges that Thayer delivered published reports to the City Council and members of the public that shows under reported actual expenditures and revenues.  The charge is punishable by 90 days and/or $500 dollars in fines.
