NEWS BRIEF

Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield  advises that over the weekend of June 25th through 27th, the Crawford County Sheriffs office and Central Dispatch have received numerous calls regarding a possible text messaging scam.

Callers have advised that they received a text message from their bank, advising that there is some type of problem with their account.  The message asks them to call a phone number (provided in the message) to clear up the problem.   Upon calling, an automated answering service requests them to enter their account number, thus granting access to the account.

The Sheriffs Office wants to remind citizens not to give out their account numbers or other personal information over the phone or through Text messages.

If such a text message is received, the Sheriffs Office advises citizens to contact their bank in person or by phone, during normal business hours to inquire if their really is a problem.
